When it rains it pours
So first off I want to say sorry for taking so extremely long to update the blog. Part of the problem has been that I have been at my grandma's house and she does not have internet but the other issue is that I have been back at the hospital for the past couple of days with Raider. I guess you can never say things can't get any worse. My mom, sister and I were all supposed to fly home on wednesday but that ended up getting canceled because both my sisters twins and Raider ended up getting the virus RSV. It is basically and virus that causes basic cold symptoms and respiratory issues also. Cortez (one of the twins) was pretty sick on Sunday so my sister and I took him to urgent care. The doctors there said that he probably had RSV and to just do some breathing treatments with him and that the virus would run its course. Well by Tuesday morning all three babies were quite sick so my sister, mom and I took all of them back to urgent care. Cortez was doing the worst so they took him back immediately and then called my mom back with the other twin Cruz. While I was still sitting in the waiting room my sister sent me a text message that they had called an ambulance and were taking Cortez to the hospital cause his oxygen levels were low. Finally they called me back with Raider. My mom and I were in the same room with Cruz and Raider who both needed breathing treatments. But Cruz was not responding to the treatments so they sent him off to the hospital also. Raider responded so they just sent me home with a nebulizer. That night though I gave Raider a breathing treatment and he still had very labored breathing so I took him to the ER at the children's hospital where my sister now was with the twins. The doctor saw him and said that he needed another breathing treatment but that he was doing fine and could go back home. The discharge nurse came in and I picked Raider up who was scalding hot. I had given him Motrin before I came for a fever and when we had come in he didn't have one. I asked her to take his temp and it turned out to be 103.5. She left the room and came back with some tylenol. Raider spit up almost all the tylenol she gave him and was so distraught. I tried to nurse him to calm him down and he would try to latch on and them go limp. When the nurse came back she had discharge papers. I didn't really feel comfortable leaving with Raider in the condition he was in so I questioned why they were discharging us. She said she had talked with the doc who said that he just had a fever and was fine. I tried to explain to her how he wouldn't nurse and she responded by saying oh he was just upset from the medicine I gave him. Anyway she discharged us and Marla and I left. When we got out to the parking lot though I just didn't feel right so we went back in and asked to speak with the doctor. When he came out he was all annoyed and basically said "well what do you want me to do admit him just because he has a fever." He told us all that was wrong was that he had a fever and that he would be fine. So we went home. Wednesday afternoon though Raider spiked another fever and the Motrin did nothing to help. Two hours later he still had a temp over 102. I called urgent care where we had originally taken the boys and they told me to return to the ER. This time we ended up in a different ER that was a pediatric ER and they felt that Raider needed to be admitted because of his breathing and temp. Marla was with me the whole time I would not have been able to do it without her. We finally got up to our room at the hospital around 3 in the morning. We ended up on the same floor as my sister who was just down the hall with the twins. They let Marla stay with me in the room even though it is against policy. They also let my mom stay with my sister and the twins because they put the twins in two seperate rooms. It was a good thing Marla stayed with me because I also have RSV and it has really knocked me out. I literally slept almost all of Thursday while Marla took care of Raider and in the middle of the night she would get up with him when the doctors and nurses came in. All three of the boys got discharged yesterday afternoon and it was so nice to go home. I think I am done with hospitals and have gotten my fair share of time in them. So anyway now my sister, mom and I will be heading back to Washington on Tuesday with three sick babies and a four year old. Wish us luck.

Kirstin,
I'm very sorry you are having even more to deal with. It had to be so frustrating and insulting when no one would stop and take the time to listen to your concerns. I hope you will all be well soon. It's wonderful that you are surrounded by family during these difficult times. Send our best to Marla.
Kate O.

Its raining cats and dogs! Argh! It will be good to have you home. We are sending extra hugs your way. Sorry you had to spend Halloween in scrubs and gowns instead of fun costumes.

Kirtsin,
what an ordeal for you and Hilary! And how was Soraya amidst all that? I hope she stayed healthy, which is very hard among siblings. And moms, they are the first ones they share the love and germs with...
Have a safe trip back to Washington. We are all anxious to see you and Raider and give you both a hug. Love, Vania, Stan, Joseph and Olivia Winters.
