Baby Needs a New Pair of Shoes

So today was a much better day than yesterday. Marla stayed with Ben last night, which gave me a break. I really needed this because everything was starting to wear me down. This morning my mom and I arrived at the hospital this afternoon. Dr. Groves and his nurse had already stopped by so Marla and Terry had good news to report to us. When they stopped by they found that Ben was definately responding better to commands today, also he opened his eyes for them for a few seconds. Marla and Terry said that he was squeezing hands a lot more today and moving around quite a bit. I was so happy to hear this and get a chance to spend some time with him. By this point Marla and Terry were getting worn down so I told them to go take some time for themselves and we would stay with Ben. I spent a lot of the morning sitting and talking to Ben and getting excited everytime he squeezed my hands. After about and hour in the room with him I noticed he was really trying to do something and looked up and noticed that he was opening his eyes. I got right up close to him and looked directly at him and asked him if he saw me. Then he squeezed my hand real tight and closed his eyes. It was so good to see those blue eyes again. My mom and I left for lunch for a little while and I accidently spilt my ice tea all over Raider from his head to his toes. Good thing I had another outfit packed along. When I got back from lunch one of the ICU doctors was just leaving and she said that she got him to respond to her which he had never done and he opened his eyes for her too. I guess they asked him if he wanted his breathing tube taken out and he raised his hand. I had run into the nurse for Dr. Groves and she said that I should see if Ben could do thumb up and down for yes and no. So when I got back I tried this and he didn't exactly put his thumb up but instead he put all his fingers up and them made a fist for no. He is doing so well. We just hope that he can start to do more within the next couple of days. This evening during the time that visitors aren't allowed my mom and I went to the Galleria. She got some new jeans, I got a pair of dress shoes, which for me is a miracle since I have a 9 AAA, and Raider got two pairs of shoes, some guitar Robeez and some Pumas. I titled this post "Baby Needs a New Pair of Shoes" cause Ben always wanted to say that while he was gambling and because the new shoes that Raider got were two pairs that Ben has been trying to buy for Raider for quite awhile. Anyway today was a good day and we hope there are many more to come.

I am so about shoes. Bella's got pumas, Soraya's got pumas, now Raider's got pumas. Better get those twins down to the shoe store to get them some pumas too. Tell blue eyes we love him dearly. That is both of your blue eyed boys. Sending prayers of hope.

Kirstin,
Rebecca has kept us posted on Ben and his condition. She shared with us where to find updates on Ben and your family. Without going into any further detail...let us share this...the Cousers in Lansing, MI are praying for you. My 5th grade class at Our Savior Lutheran School are praying for Ben and the plans God has for him. We lift you, Raider and your entire family to the Lord during this period of uncertainty. May the Holy Spirit bless you and give you peace.

We are so happy to hear that Benjamin is showing improvement. Even though it's going slowly, that's better than nothing. I'm really happy that Marla and Terry are able to be there with Benjamin, and you too. I know Raider certainly lifts their spirits and keeps them motivated. Grandchildren definitely have a way to do that. Please give our love to everyone. Tell Marla if she ever needs to talk to anyone, please call me. I'm here for her. Her aunts and Mom were always there for us, so I am here for her, too. Love, Marcia
