Surgery Postponed!!
Well today we were all ready for the surgery to take place. My mom arrived at the hospital around 6am and The Liesch's got here are 7am. We sat around with Ben in his room and just hung out until transport came to take him down to pre-op. They only allow one person in pre-op so I went down with Ben. When we got in there a nurse came to give him some medicine for nausea. Ben seemed very nervous and was shaking so I said a prayer and sang to him and he began to calm down. The anistesiologist came and spoke with him and I asked her if they had recieved the chest CT scan back yet. Earlier that morning a doctor had come and let us know that the ultrasound came back negative. The anistesiologist said that she had looked for it that morning but did not find a result and figured that radiology probably hadn't logged it in yet but most likely had called Dr. Lavine with the report. Then they took Ben off to surgery and I headed out to the waiting room where Terry, Marla, Jenna, Raider and my mom were waiting. My mom and I then headed up to Ben's room to clean out our stuff and returned back down to the surgery waiting area. We had not been back but 10 minutes when Dr. Lavine came by and said he wanted to speak with us. My mom stayed with Raider and the rest of us went to a conference room. My heart dropped and I just knew this was not going to be good news. Dr. Lavine proceeded to tell us that right when they started to put Ben under radiology called with the CT report. They had not found any lesions in his abdomen but they had discovered a blood clot in his lung. He said that Ben had a blood clot in his leg and a peice had broken of and traveled to his lung. We are extremely lucky that it did not travel anywhere else because a clot like this could have killed Ben instantly and is still a major threat. They could not proceed with the surgery and immediately stopped the anistesia and brought him back. If they were to proceed, Ben could have had difficulty breathing and not made it through the surgery. So now we are not only dealing with a tumor but also a blood clot. They plan to give him some medicine that will help to prevent any more blood clots. They also are thinking they will try to do a biopsy on Monday and find out more about the tumor. After the biopsy we will know a little more about how they will plan to treat him. They may end up just going straight to radiation and chemo if they find it is a tumor that would be responsive to this or they may still do surgery. Ben is being moved to a floor with patients who need constant care. This has been a very difficult set back for all of us so please keep Ben and all of his family in your prayers.

Kirstin,
I am so sorry to hear that the surgery is being postponed. I also can't believe that he has a blood clot. You all are in our prayers and we hope to hear some good news about Ben soon. I am sure that God will bless your family with a miracle. We love you and are praying for you.

Something has got to give. We don't know the answers and while these set backs are difficult and frusterating maybe an answer can come out of them. It is so hard not being there! Hold on to the moments. Please, keep hope. All the love and prayers sent your way.
Jenna, you and your family are in my constant thoughts and prayers.
I think of all of you all the time.
Sending postive vibes to Ben and your parents, Kirstin, Raider and to you... Hug each other a lot...Please know that you are wrapped in the warmth of friendship!
Peace and Healing to all of you!

Ben and Kirstin,
We feel so helpless at this distance, but so confident in your care right now. Of course you are in our constant thoughts and prayers. We know God is with you and your medical staff. Take care of yourself, Kirstin. You need rest and support to be strong for Ben and Raider. There is work on this end for a fundraiser, so know everyone is wanting to help. May God wrap his loving arms around you all. With love, Peg and Bruce
